Planning Oregon Coast Hideaways.
Five days heading south along a rugged, forested coast. Astoria is the northern start, with the hilltop view from the Astoria Column and a walk along its working waterfront. Cannon Beach comes next, built around Haystack Rock, its tide pools and the headland trails of Ecola State Park. Yachats is the quiet end of the line, where Cape Perpetua's old-growth trails meet the shoreline and Thor's Well draws visitors to a safe viewpoint.

When to go
May through September is the driest and brightest stretch, with the best odds of clear viewpoints and comfortable trails. Coastal fog and cool temperatures are common even then. Outside summer, storms can be dramatic, but rain is frequent and some lodging fills on weekends.
Getting around
Driving is the main option, since the coast highway links every stop and the best viewpoints are pullouts along the way. Towns like Cannon Beach and Astoria are walkable once you park. Check road conditions and expect slower, winding sections.
Tips for your crew
- Check tide times before visiting tide pools at Haystack Rock, and give ocean viewpoints like Thor's Well plenty of distance when waves are big.
- Book small inns early, especially for summer weekends. Options in the smaller towns are limited, so settle your lodging first.
- Take your time on the coast road. Stopping at the many pullouts is part of the trip, so don't schedule every hour.
