Planning Miami New Year's Eve.

Spend New Year's Eve downtown on Biscayne Bay. Have an early Cuban dinner at Versailles or a stone-crab dinner at Joe's, catch the salsa band at Ball & Chain on Calle Ocho, then head to Bayfront Park for Miami's free countdown concert, where the Big Orange, a 35-foot LED orange, climbs the side of the InterContinental at midnight and fireworks go off from barges in the bay. Rusty Pelican on Virginia Key watches the same show across the water. On Jan 1, cross to South Beach for Cuban breakfast at Puerto Sagua, a swim off Lummus Park, the Art Deco hotels of Ocean Drive and a sunset walk at South Pointe Park.

Good for Groups who want a big free outdoor party, Cuban food and a beach morning after.

When to go

Arrive Dec 30 and leave Jan 2. The Bayfront Park celebration is free; gates typically open around 6 p.m., with Latin headliners through the night, the Big Orange rising and fireworks over the bay at midnight. Paid VIP areas sell out. The 2025-26 edition drew around 100,000 people, so expect bag checks and full lawns by 10 p.m. Miami Beach typically sets off its own midnight fireworks over the ocean off Lummus Park. Dec 31 is warm, with highs in the mid-70s F and lows in the mid-60s F; brief showers are possible. On Jan 1, beaches and most restaurants are open, many shops open late, and banks and government offices close.

Getting around

Fly into Miami International (MIA) or Fort Lauderdale (FLL). The free Metromover loops downtown and Brickell with stops at Bayfront Park and College North, and Miami-Dade Transit typically extends Metrorail and Metromover hours on New Year's Eve. Biscayne Boulevard closes around the park, and rideshare surges hard from 11:30 p.m. to 2 a.m.; walk a few blocks south into Brickell before calling a car. On Jan 1, the drive over the MacArthur Causeway to South Beach takes 15 minutes; parking garages on Collins Avenue fill by midday.

Tips for your crew

  • Bring nothing you'd mind leaving behind: Bayfront Park bans large bags, chairs and coolers, and lines are long.
  • The best free view of the fireworks with fewer people is from the bayfront around Bayside Marketplace, just north of the park.
  • Book any New Year's Eve dinner with a bay view, such as Rusty Pelican, by early December; set menus are common.
