Trip guide
Warm water and a bit of everything. South Beach is the place to settle in, with Art Deco buildings, beach days and a lively dining scene after dark. From there the route heads inland to the Everglades, a wide, quiet wetland where airboats and boardwalks bring you close to gators and wading birds. It finishes down the island chain in Key West, where the mood slows to a stroll and sunsets draw a crowd.
Good for Sun seekers who want beaches with a side of nature
November through April is the dry, comfortable season, with sunny days and lower humidity. Winter is also the busiest time, so expect fuller beaches and higher demand for rooms. Summer is hot, sticky and storm prone, and hurricane season runs through the early fall.
Rent a car for this one. The Everglades sit a short drive from Miami, and the road down the Keys is a famously scenic run with bridges and water on both sides. South Beach itself is walkable, with ride shares and rentable bikes for short hops.
