Planning Cleveland New Year's Eve.

Cleveland has no big free public countdown, so New Year's Eve here means a ticketed party, and the biggest is at Windows on the River, inside the old brick Powerhouse on the West Bank of the Flats, which held a New Year's Eve party for 2025-26. Before it, walk under the holiday lights on Public Square and the outdoor chandelier at Playhouse Square, have a Polish lunch at Sokolowski's, in the family since 1923, and get a cocktail at the Velvet Tango Room. On Jan 1, cross the river to Ohio City for dinner at Great Lakes Brewing, the city's first brewpub, and walk the Lake Erie shore at Edgewater Park, where the whole skyline sits across the water.

Good for Friends and couples who want one dressed-up party night and an easy, low-key Jan 1.

When to go

Arrive Dec 30 and leave Jan 2. Party tickets at Windows on the River and downtown hotels typically go on sale in the fall and include dinner, an open bar and a midnight toast; check each venue for the current year. Visit the West Side Market before the holiday, since it closes on Jan 1. Dec 31 is cold, with highs in the mid-30s F, wind off the lake and possible lake-effect snow.

Getting around

Fly into Cleveland Hopkins (CLE); the RTA Red Line runs from the airport to Tower City on Public Square in about 25 minutes. Downtown, the Flats and Ohio City are within 30 minutes of each other on foot, but bundle up or take short rideshare trips; rideshare surges after midnight, so book a hotel near your party. On Jan 1, Edgewater Park is about 10 minutes by car west of Ohio City and has free parking.

Tips for your crew

  • Buy party tickets early; the best tables at Windows on the River sell out.
  • Shop the West Side Market on Dec 30 or the morning of Dec 31.
  • Bring a warm hat and gloves for the windy walk along the lake on Jan 1.
