The moments that shape this trip.

Planning Charlotte New Year's Eve.

Stay Uptown, a few blocks from Truist Field. On Dec 30, walk through the lit trees in Romare Bearden Park, eat at Aria Tuscan Grill and finish with a drink on the Merchant & Trade rooftop. On New Year's Eve, have an early steak dinner at The Capital Grille, then head to CLT NYE inside Truist Field, the city's official countdown, with skating, snow tubing, holiday light displays and fireworks over the ballpark at midnight. If you'd rather see a band, The Fillmore Charlotte is a short ride north. On Jan 1, take the light rail to NoDa for fried chicken at Haberdish and the murals along North Davidson Street, graze at Optimist Hall, and walk off the night on the Little Sugar Creek Greenway or around the lake in Freedom Park.

Good for Friends and couples who want a relaxed, affordable countdown and an easy brunch-and-walk New Year's Day.

When to go

CLT NYE moved inside Truist Field for Dec 31, 2024, and returned for its second year in 2025, running from 8 p.m. until after the midnight fireworks. Tickets were $16 for general admission and $46 with skating and snow tubing in 2025, including a glass of champagne or cider; the 2024 event sold out, so buy early. Dec 31 in Charlotte is usually mild and dry, with highs around 50F and lows near freezing. On Jan 1 many restaurants are closed or open late, so check hours.

Getting around

Uptown is compact and walkable, and Truist Field is a few blocks from most hotels. The LYNX Blue Line light rail links Uptown with NoDa in about 10 minutes; get off at 36th Street. Check CATS for late-night service on Dec 31. Rideshare prices surge after midnight around the ballpark, and nearby parking decks fill early, so walk if you can. Charlotte Douglas International Airport is about 15 minutes from Uptown.

Tips for your crew

  • Buy CLT NYE tickets with the skating and tubing add-on early; those sessions are limited.
  • Book Merchant & Trade or dinner seatings well ahead for Dec 31; Uptown rooftops fill quickly.
  • Go to Haberdish right at opening on Jan 1, or plan for a wait.
