Planning Baltimore New Year's Eve.

Stay in Harbor East and spend Dec 30 in Little Italy, with dinner at Sabatino's and a walk back along the promenade to the lit harbor. On New Year's Eve, book the tasting menu at Charleston or a table at Bygone on the 29th floor of the Four Seasons, then walk to the Inner Harbor for the free city celebration, or climb Federal Hill Park for a view down onto the midnight fireworks. On Jan 1, take the waterfront path to Fells Point for oysters on Thames Street, a pint at the Horse You Came In On, and a cold walk up to the Pagoda in Patterson Park.

Good for Couples and friends who want a walkable waterfront New Year's Eve with serious restaurants.

When to go

Baltimore's free New Year's Eve celebration at the Inner Harbor ends with fireworks at midnight. On Dec 31, 2024 bands played the Inner Harbor stage from about 8 p.m. and the fireworks ran nearly 15 minutes; for Dec 31, 2025 the city billed it as a New Year's Eve Spectacular from 6 p.m. to midnight, with live music, skating and vendors, and fireworks barges between Point Park and Domino Sugar and in the Inner Harbor channel. The show is visible from Federal Hill, Harbor East, Fells Point, Canton and Locust Point. Dec 31 is typically -2 to 7 C and can be wet; in 2024 storms delayed the evening but not the fireworks. On Jan 1 many restaurants open late or close.

Getting around

Fly into BWI Thurgood Marshall, about 20 minutes away, or take Amtrak to Penn Station. Harbor East, the Inner Harbor and Federal Hill are all within a 20-minute walk, and Fells Point is 15 minutes east of Harbor East along the waterfront. The city typically closes Light Street and Pratt Street near the harbor and restricts commercial vehicles downtown from late afternoon until about 2 a.m. In 2025 the free Charm City Circulator ran only until 8 p.m. on Dec 31 and not at all on Jan 1, so plan to walk or use rideshare, which surges right after midnight.

Tips for your crew

  • Federal Hill Park fills early; get to the top by 11 p.m. for a clear line over the harbor.
  • Book Charleston and Bygone weeks ahead; both sell out for Dec 31.
  • Dress for wind off the water; the harbor promenade is several degrees colder than the streets.
