Trip guide
Planning Los Angeles After Dark.
Three nights, three different moods, all after sunset. Downtown starts things off with Grand Central Market, an easy first stop for a group with different cravings, then the murals and warehouse bars of the Arts District. West Hollywood is the loud middle, with live music and comedy along the Sunset Strip and dance floors on Santa Monica Boulevard. Hollywood brings the Vinyl District's cocktail rooms and a quiet skyline pause at the Hollywood Bowl overlook.
Good for Friends who want a nightlife-driven city weekend
When to go
March through November keeps evenings mild and dry, which suits patios, rooftops and walking between venues. Summer nights are warm and lively, while spring and fall are easier on the schedule. Winter can bring cooler or wetter nights, so bring a layer.
Getting around
Rideshares are the standard way to move between neighborhoods, especially late at night. Downtown, West Hollywood and Hollywood each work on foot once you arrive. Some groups use the Metro for part of the trip, but late evenings are simpler by car.
Tips for your crew
- Pick one neighborhood per night and stay put. Hopping across the city burns time in traffic, and each area has enough to fill an evening.
- Plan a rideshare pickup spot ahead of time and share it with the group. Crowded streets late at night can make meeting up harder.
- Book popular dinners and any shows early, and keep your late hours loose. A flexible group finds the best spots after midnight.
