The moments that shape this trip.

Planning Seoul, Gyeongju & Busan.

Start in Seoul with Gyeongbokgung Palace, the hanok lanes of Bukchon and a night of bindaetteok at Gwangjang Market. Ride the KTX south to Gyeongju, the old Silla capital, where grassy royal tombs at Daereungwon sit beside Cheomseongdae observatory and Bulguksa Temple climbs the hills. Finish in Busan, mixing the hillside murals of Gamcheon Culture Village with raw fish at Jagalchi Market. Close with the seaside temple of Haedong Yonggungsa and an evening on Gwangalli Beach facing the lit-up Gwangan Bridge.

Good for First-time visitors who want history, street food and a beach city on one easy rail line.

When to go

April brings cherry blossoms in Gyeongju and Seoul, and October to early November has crisp air and red maples. July and August are hot, humid and rainy; winter is cold but clear.

Getting around

KTX trains link Seoul to Gyeongju (Singyeongju Station) in about 2 hours and Gyeongju to Busan in about 30 minutes. Seoul and Busan have excellent subways; in Gyeongju use city buses, taxis or rent a bike.

Tips for your crew

  • Load a T-money card for subways, buses and convenience stores in all three cities.
  • Naver Map and KakaoMap work far better than Google Maps for walking and transit directions in Korea.
  • Many palaces close on Mondays or Tuesdays, so check days before you plan Seoul.
