Trip guide

Planning Charleston & Savannah.

This is a Southern trip built for walking and lingering. Charleston comes first, with pastel houses, cobblestone lanes, historic homes and a serious food scene. Beaufort is the quiet pause in between, a small town of oak-lined streets and water views along the Lowcountry. Savannah finishes the route with leafy squares, Spanish moss and old mansions that make every stroll feel like a garden walk. Expect porches, shaded benches and long, unhurried dinners.

Good for Couples and friends who love history and food

When to go

March through May is the favorite window, with mild weather, blooming gardens and pleasant evenings for outdoor dining. Spring weekends can be busy. Summer is hot and humid, while fall is also pleasant and winter is quieter and cooler, with fewer visitors.

Getting around

Charleston and Savannah are linked by road, and a rental car makes it easy to include Beaufort along the way. Both cities are very walkable in their historic centers, so you can park once and explore on foot. Ride shares and tours help for longer hops.

Tips for your crew

  • Book popular dinners well ahead in both cities, especially on weekends. Charleston and Savannah are known for food, and good tables fill early.
  • Take a walking tour in each city. A guide adds history and stories that you would miss walking alone, and it helps orient the group.
  • Give Beaufort a half day, not a rush. It works best as a slow lunch, a waterfront stroll and a break from city crowds.
