Trip guide
Bourbon is the thread, but the landscape is the real reward. Louisville starts the trip with NuLu restaurants and an easy walk along Waterfront Park by the Ohio River. Bardstown follows, a courthouse-square town surrounded by distillery country roads and rolling hills. The route finishes in Lexington, where Horse Country lanes pass thoroughbred farms and the Distillery District serves up live music and restored buildings for a relaxed last night.
Good for Adult friend groups who want tastings and scenery
April through October gives you green bluegrass, open patios and comfortable days on country roads. Spring is especially pretty for horse farms, while fall brings softer light and cooler tasting-room afternoons. Summer is warm and humid, so plan indoor stops for the middle of the day.
You will need a car, or a designated driver, to link the three stops and reach the distilleries and farms outside town. Louisville, Bardstown's center and Lexington's downtown are each walkable once you park.
